Leaving, Launching, or Getting a Letter? Let's Talk Non-Competes.
Not every physician comes to me with the same problem. Some want to understand their options before resigning.
Others have already made their next move and need to figure out what happens now.

Here's where we can start.
I Want to Leave My Current Employer
You've found another opportunity, but you're not sure whether your non-compete restricts where you can work or which patients you can treat.

We'll look at: Geographic restrictions, prohibited activities, duration, and how those terms apply to your proposed position.
I'm Ready to Open My Own Practice
You're ready to build something of your own. The question is whether your current agreement creates restrictions you need to address before opening.

We'll look at: Practice location, patient and employee non-solicitation, confidentiality obligations, and potential transition risks.
My Employer Sent Me a Cease-and-Desist Letter
You've already made a move, and your former employer is challenging it. You need to understand the allegations, your contractual obligations, and your options for responding.

We'll look at: The agreement, the employer's demands, relevant facts, potential defenses, and whether negotiation makes sense.
I Want to Negotiate My Non-Compete
You haven't signed yet, or you're discussing an exit. You want to know which restrictions are reasonable to negotiate and what changes would actually help.

We'll look at: The terms that matter most to your plans, potential leverage, and realistic negotiation priorities.

Your Non-Compete Isn't Reviewed in a Vacuum.
I've reviewed more than 50 physician employment agreements in 2026 alone, including agreements from major Georgia hospital systems and privately owned medical practices.

When a physician comes to me about a non-compete, I'm not looking for the most aggressive argument I can make.
I'm looking at the entire agreement, the employment relationship, the physician's goals, and what might actually move the situation forward.

Sometimes that means negotiating a release. Sometimes it means identifying a better way to structure the next move. And sometimes it means explaining why a particular argument isn't worth pursuing.

You'll get my perspective, not a manufactured list of problems.

How We’ve Helped Physicians Resolve Non-Compete Disputes in Georgia
I've helped healthcare professionals work through non-compete disputes involving new jobs, private practice launches, and threats of enforcement.

Here are two anonymized examples of how a closer look at the entire employment relationship made a difference.
$90K IN COMPENSATION PRESERVED
After a Non-Compete Threat Put Her New Job on Hold
The problem: A physician left for a better-paying position, then received a cease-and-desist alleging that her new job violated the geographic restrictions in her non-compete. Her former employer also contacted the new employer, which stopped allowing her to work until the dispute was resolved.

What we did: We evaluated the agreement, identified the physician’s leverage, and negotiated directly with the former employer rather than immediately escalating to litigation.

The result: The former employer agreed to amend the non-compete so she could keep her new job. She returned to work, avoided litigation, and preserved a $30,000 annual salary increase.
$90,000 in additional compensation preserved over her 3-year contract.
RELEASED FROM HER NON-COMPETE
After Starting Her Own Practice
The problem: After leaving her former employer and starting her own practice, an NP received a cease-and-desist demanding that she comply with her non-compete.

What we did: Instead of treating the non-compete as the only issue, we reviewed the entire employment relationship and identified contractual obligations the former employer had failed to satisfy.

The result: We used the employer’s own breach as leverage and negotiated a release from enforcement of the non-compete, allowing the NP to move forward with her new practice.
Need More Than Advice? Let's See Whether Negotiation Makes Sense.
Sometimes understanding your non-compete is enough to make your next decision.

Other times, you need someone to communicate with your former employer, negotiate revised restrictions, or work toward a release.

That's where the Physician Negotiation Suite may come in.

Physician Negotiation Suite

For qualifying matters, this service includes attorney-led negotiations for up to 30 days, with support through execution of a negotiated agreement within the engagement scope.

But there's an important first step.

I don't offer the Negotiation Suite until we've completed a Physician Contract Session.

Why? Because I want to evaluate the agreement, your leverage, and the realistic opportunities for improving your position before recommending an $8,000 engagement.

Sometimes negotiation is the right move. Sometimes it isn't. You deserve to understand that distinction before spending more money.
Let's Figure Out What Your Non-Compete Means for Your Next Move.
Whether you're considering a new job, planning to open a practice, or responding to a former employer, you deserve advice based on your actual agreement and circumstances.

I'll help you understand the restrictions, evaluate your options, and decide what makes sense from here.

Georgia Physician Non-Competes: Let's Clear a Few Things Up.
Are Physician Non-Compete Agreements Enforceable in Georgia?
They can be. Georgia law permits certain employment-related restrictive covenants, but whether a particular non-compete is enforceable depends on the agreement's language, the employment relationship, and the applicable legal standards.

The geographic restriction, duration, and prohibited activities all matter. So do the facts surrounding your employment and proposed next move.

During your Physician Contract Session, I'll evaluate the agreement and explain how the relevant Georgia law may apply to your situation.

TL;DR: Don't assume your non-compete is automatically enforceable or automatically invalid. Have the actual agreement evaluated before making decisions based on either assumption.
Can I Open My Own Medical Practice if I Signed a Non-Compete?
Possibly. Signing a non-compete doesn't necessarily mean you have to abandon your plans to open a practice.

The answer depends on what your agreement restricts, where you intend to practice, the services you'll provide, and other contractual obligations that may apply.

I regularly work with physicians launching private practices, so our conversation can address both the restriction itself and how it affects your proposed business model.

TL;DR: Before signing a lease, announcing your opening, or contacting patients, let's review the agreement and your launch plans.

TL;DR: Check availability and book online. No preliminary Fit Call required.
My Former Employer Sent Me a Cease-and-Desist Letter. What Should I Do?
A cease-and-desist letter communicates your former employer's position. It does not, by itself, establish that the employer's interpretation of your agreement is correct.

I recommend starting with a Physician Contract Session so we can evaluate the agreement, the allegations, and your options before deciding how to respond.
If attorney-led negotiations make sense, we can discuss whether your matter qualifies for my Negotiation Suite.

Have an upcoming response deadline? Book the first available appointment and email us your timeline. We'll do our best to accommodate it.

TL;DR: Don't ignore the letter or assume every allegation is correct. Get advice before responding.
Can You Negotiate With My Employer to Remove or Change My Non-Compete?
Yes, when the circumstances support negotiation.
We start with a $1,250 Physician Contract Session to evaluate the agreement, your goals, and the potential leverage available.

If I believe there's a reasonable opportunity to improve your position, I may recommend my $8,000 Negotiation Suite, which includes up to 30 days of attorney-led negotiations.

I don't recommend negotiation simply because a provision is unfavorable. I want to understand whether the likely benefit justifies the investment and the potential consequences of escalating the dispute.

TL;DR: Yes, but we'll evaluate the strategy first. I only offer negotiation services after the initial consultation.
